RUSSIA:-On Sunday, the media was told in the report that Russia became the first country to complete clinical trials of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Chief researcher Elena Smolyarchuk, who heads the Center for Clinical Research on Medicine at the University of Sechinov, told the Russian news agency TASS on Sunday that human testing for the vaccine had been completed at the university and would be discharged soon.

The report to Smolarchuk stated, "Research has been completed and it has been proven that the vaccine is safe. Volunteers will be discharged on July 15 and July 20."

However, there is no further information about the vaccine entering the commercial production phase.

Russia on 18 June allowed clinical trials of two variants of a potential Covid-19 vaccine developed by the Gamalaya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology.

The first vaccine, as a solution for intramuscular administration, was performed at Burdenco Military Hospital.

Another vaccine in the form of powder for the preparation of a solution for intramuscular administration, was performed at the Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University.

The first phase of research on the vaccine at Sechnov University consisted of a group of 18 volunteers and the second group consisted of 20 volunteers.

After vaccination, all volunteers were expected to remain in isolation in a hospital for 28 days.

Earlier, the results of COVID-19 vaccine tests conducted on a group of volunteers in Russia showed that they were developing immunity to coronaviruses.

According to an earlier statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense, "data obtained by the Gamale National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology proves that volunteers from the first and second groups are creating an immune response after injection of vaccines against coronovirus."

There have been 719,449 cases and 11,188 deaths in Russia so far.  According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are currently at least 21 vaccines under critical testing.

According to Johns Hopkins University in the US, the total number of global COVID-19 cases was close to 12.7 million, while deaths have exceeded 564,000.
